Maurizio Burla

Maurizio Burla received his M.Sc. degree with full marks from the University of Perugia, Italy, in November 2007, specializing in microwave and antenna engineering.

From December 2006 to April 2007 he was intern at the European Space Agency for Delta-Utec Space Research & Consultancy, Noordwijk, the Netherlands, working on system integration and testing of the RF section of YES2 satellite (Young Engineers' Satellite 2) project. After his M.Sc. graduation he joined the System Engineering group at AleniaSIA S.p.A., Torino, Italy, working on the Avionic System of the Alenia C-27J Spartan aircraft.

In July 2008 he joined the Telecommunication Engineering Group of the University of Twente as a PhD student, working in Microwave Photonics. His research focused on advanced integrated optical beamformers based on optical ring resonators for aerospace and radio-astronomy applications.

Since October 2012 he is a postdoctoral research fellow at Ultrafast Optical Processing group at INRS-EMT, Montréal, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. José Azaña. His research activities focus on integrated-waveguide technologies for all-optical signal processing for a range of applications, including next-generation telecommunication systems, ultrafast optical signal measurement, microwave photonics, and optical computing.
