Antonio Malacarne


Antonio Malacarne was born in Livorno, Italy.

He received the M.Sc. degree (hons) in telecommunications engineering from University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2004. He received the Ph.D. degree (hons) from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2009. Since 2006 he has been a Visiting Student at the Photonics Research Center of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Seoul, South Korea. He won a Short-term research or professional development scholarship (V3) within the Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students MELS-FQRNT PBEEE 2008–2009, through which he has been a Visiting Student at the Institut National de la Recherche Scienti?que—Centre Energie, Matériaux et Télécommunications (INRS-EMT), Montreal, Canada, in the Ultrafast Optical Processing (UOP) group. He worked in the Ultrafast Optical Processing group at INRS-EMT as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, working with Prof. Jose Azana. He has to his credit 35 publications in top scienti?c journals and international proceedings, four international patents and two book chapters.

His research interests include OTDM systems, ultra-short optical pulses generation and real-time single-shot characterization, optical pulse shaping, all-optical sampling, all-optical multi-stable devices, all-optical signal processing and optical packet switching (OPS) networks.
